Paediatrics
PEAK Physiotherapy is delighted to offer specialist, private paediatric physiotherapy services, based within all of our 4 private clinics, with the option of arranging assessment and treatment of your child at home or at school if this is considered more appropriate. Our therapist, Kay Ganguly has specialised in paediatric physiotherapy, working with children with complex physical needs for more than eight years.
Paediatric physiotherapy involves working with children and their families/carers to enable them to achieve their optimal physical development. It uses play and positioning to motivate children and to encourage their development. It encompasses all ages from birth to 16 years.
Examples of paediatric conditions can include:
- Musculoskeletal injuries/disorders
- Neurodisability, including cerebral palsy and a wide range of syndromes
- Developmental delay
- Rheumatological conditions
- Co-ordination disorders
What it involves:
- Discussion with the parent(s)/main carer(s) about their primary concerns regarding the child's difficulties. It can often be helpful to liaise with the nursery/school for additional information.
- Assessment of the child's motor abilities – Formation of a plan of intervention for home/school
- Attending review appointments
Paediatric physiotherapy treatment techniques can include:
- Positioning and handling advice
- Soft tissue massage and stretching
- Posture re-education
- Neurodevelopmental therapy
- Home exercise programme
- Hydrotherapy
- Lots of education and advice
