Neuro-Physiotherapy
PEAK Physiotherapy is delighted to offer a comprehensive, private neurological physiotherapy service, serving the Yorkshire area. In addition to
offering a mobile / domiciliary service, we have a dedicated clinic based within Iveridge Hall (Oulton), conveniently situated on the Leeds and Wakefield border, close to the M62, M1 and A1 motorway links.
Here at PEAK Physiotherapy, we are proud to have two specialist senior neurological physiotherapists as part of our team. Karen Wood and Alison Lyon, both have extensive clinical experience, providing specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation to adults with acquired neurological pathology.
Neurological physiotherapy is a specialist branch of physiotherapy treatment designed to help individuals overcome the difficulties associated with damage/injury to their central nervous system i.e. brain and spinal cord.
Examples of these types of condition in adults include:
- Stroke (CVA/TIA)
- Head Injury/Traumatic brain injury
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Parkinson's disease
- Spinal cord injury
- Guillain Barre Syndrome
The above conditions can cause individuals to have problems with:
- muscle weakness
- muscle tightness/spasticity
- muscle spasm
- pain
- reduced sensation
- balance and co-ordination
- walking
- everyday functional activities e.g. reaching, grasping, dressing
Having even one of these issues can compromise an individual's ability to function normally, which can affect confidence, independence, and quality of life.
Neurological rehabilitation will be an important part of the recovery process, and needs to begin as early as possible. Some treatment/rehabilitation may already have commenced within a hospital/NHS setting. However, on-going treatment is often beneficial to maintain progress and to maximise the potential of the individual. It is not only the individual, but the whole family who has to adjust to a new way of life. With this in mind, PEAK Physiotherapy strives to liaise closely with the individual, their carers, Consultant/GP, Case Manager and Solicitor, in order to achieve the best possible results.
To arrange an appointment for an initial assessment (or for any additional queries regarding this service), please telephone Cathy Preston (07908 684440) or Sarah Joice (07908 684441). For a clinic based appointment at Iveridge Hall, please contact Main Reception directly on 0113 2887666, specifying that you wish to see one of our neurological physiotherapists.
Alternatively, we can also arrange a home visit if your mobility restricts your travel to our clinic, if you prefer physiotherapy to take place in your own home, or indeed if rehabilitation aims and needs require home surroundings.
